It was summer of 1998, when DD started to work on his barbeque (BBQ) sauce. He always had a passion for BBQ and frequently cooked BBQ. After owning different restaurants in the Oakland area, DD decided to start something different. The first Double D BBQ location took a year to build and another additional year to get everything approved by the health department, but finally, in January 2008, the first Double D BBQ restaurant opened in East Oakland. The first location was just a carry out restaurant, but once people got a taste of the BBQ they loved it. In November 2009 , Double D BBQ moved to 1240 1st Avenue, a block from Lake Merritt in Oakland. At our new location we offer on site seating, carry out, catering and fundraising opportunites.
